Not long before leaving from the Smoky Mountains NP, we had stopped at a river in the valley, and then saw an older couple kayaking. The air was around freezing, and the water was not much warmer, so we observed curiously how the couple managed to go around the larger stones, splashes all around them. After a while we also saw a car trailing them on the road, making sure they are ok and in the end picking up the equipment.
